Akins, John "Jack" age 84, passed away peacefully at his Plymouth home January 26, 2019. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Burdette; children, all of Minnesota: Sherry (Brad) Solstad, Heidi Akins Sheen, Amy Akins, Dawn Akins, Mark Akins, Steven Akins, Chad Akins; step sons: Chad (Jill) Burdette, Scott Burdette; grandchildren: Kyle (Katie) Solstad, Ryan (Fiancee: Rachel Ellens) Solstad, Jennifer (Matthew) Peterson, Layne Burdette, Luke Burdette, Sebastian Eby, and Violet Eby. Jack was born February 28, 1934, in Watertown, MN, growing up on the family farm. He received an Engineering Degree from the University of Minnesota. After graduation, he served as a U. S. Army Reserve Officer. He began his career as a design engineer, primarily for farm equipment. He later bought the family farm and was active as a youth hockey coach. After selling the farm, he returned to Minneapolis as a broker with Drexel Burnham. He moved to Plymouth, MN and married Phyllis in 1992. He worked for Dain Bosworth, John Kinnard & Co, Wealth Enhancement and later had a home office in the securities business. His hobbies were many but his love of boating and fishing dominated his spare time. He loved traveling with Phyllis and thought each day was a new adventure.
