A 30-year-old man who fatally shot another man in the back of the head outside a downtown Minneapolis parking ramp has been sentenced to an 11-year term.

Jermaine J. McMahon was sentenced Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court after being found guilty in May of second-degree unintentional murder in the 2015 shooting of Justin M. Williams, 28, of Bloomington.

With credit for time in jail since his arrest shortly after the killing, McMahon will serve slightly more than five years in prison and the balance on supervised release.

Williams' mother, Ramona Jammeh, told the court during sentencing about receiving "a phone call that no one ever wants to be on the other end of."

Jammeh also said that she believes in forgiveness even though McMahon expressed no remorse and did not explain why he shot Williams.

McMahon responded to questions from Judge Jamie Anderson and said nothing more before learning his fate.

Williams was shot five times — in the abdomen, chest and back of the head — outside the 10th Street ramp on the north end of downtown.

Surveillance footage led police detectives to McMahon, whose image was captured at several locations in the hours leading up to the shooting, which also was caught on a camera near the parking ramp at 10th Street and Currie Avenue, according to a criminal complaint.

McMahon fled on a mountain bike and was later tracked down at a St. Paul homeless shelter.
