Robbinsdale police on Monday afternoon continued to investigate a homicide after a man was fatally shot outside of a residence.

Police were called to the home on the 5600 block of 42nd Avenue N. around midnight Sunday after residents heard a volley of gunshots. When officers arrived, they found a man inside a vehicle who had been shot, said Police Chief Jim Franzen.

Scott Allen, who lives in the area, was just on his way home from a late Father's Day celebration with family members when he came across the scene about 12:15 a.m. Monday. He said an ambulance, a rig from the West Metro Fire-Rescue District and a dozen or more police cars were near where a white car with a door open was parked in a driveway. He said several markers had been placed, presumably indicating where shell casings were fired.

Allen drove north a few blocks through the neighborhood and stopped to ask an officer stationed at 44th and Welcome avenues N. what was going on. The officer told him " 'It's a bad night; go home, lock the doors and stay inside,' " Allen said.

Anybody with information is asked to call Robbinsdale police at 763-531-1220.
