A man found dead in a western Wisconsin home over the weekend was slain by his housemate, authorities alleged Wednesday.

Police in Menomonie, a city roughly 45 miles from the Twin Cities' eastern suburbs, identified the victim of Sunday's killing as John M. Likeness, 54.

What authorities have yet to disclose is how Likeness was killed or why. Pending is the release of autopsy results from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office in St. Paul.

Carrie Likeness, his niece, said her uncle was a fully disabled and distinguished Army veteran.

The 52-year-old suspect was arrested at the men's home and remained in the Dunn County jail on suspicion of first-degree homicide, domestic abuse and being a habitual offender. His criminal history in Wisconsin includes convictions for battery, disorderly conduct, drug possession, property damage and weapons possession.

The man has yet to be charged. The Star Tribune generally does not identify suspects before they are charged.

A 911 call about 3:15 p.m. Sunday about a disturbance brought officers to the home in the 600 block of 15th Street SE., a couple of blocks west of the Dunn County Fairgrounds, police said.

Emergency responders attempted to revive Likeness, but he was declared dead at the scene.
