A 14-year-old summer Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board employee was beaten with a padlock, socks filled with rocks and a Taser by a group of girls Wednesday afternoon as she neared the end of her shift at Folwell Park.

The group descended on the girl as adult Park Board supervisors stood nearby. The group fled before police arrived. Authorities said the victim knows the girls who attacked her. She was recovering at home Thursday.

The victim works in the Park Board's Teen Teamworks summer jobs program. About 250 kids work in parks across the city through the program, cleaning, spreading wood chips and doing other basic park maintenance.

Park Board spokeswoman Dawn Sommers said organizers of the Teen Teamworks program plan to meet with employees next week to talk about some of the issues surrounding the fight.

"This was such an unusual incident," program coordinator Linda Tkaczik said.
