"Drop shotting'' can be effective for walleyes, while losing minimal tackle to rocky lake bottoms. Tie a three-way swivel to the end of your line. To a second of the swivel's three rings tie a piece of line about 6 inches long, and to the other ring tie a piece 2 feet or longer (vary according to water depth, speed of boat, etc.). To the shorter piece attach enough split shot to reach bottom; tie a baited hook or jig to the longer piece. The bait will ride above the rocks; the split shot will keep the bait near bottom. If snagged, the split shot will pull off the line and can be quickly replaced.
