Wednesday served up a smooth commute for most motorists, but those on westbound I-94 between St. Paul and Minneapolis spent more time than usual on the road.

A stall at Cedar Avenue just after 8 a.m. was the only reported incident, but heavy traffic likely due to the closure of the ramp to northbound 35E contributed to the slow down that persisted for most of the rush.

Up in Monticello, traffic is flowing freely now on eastbound I-94. An earlier wreck about 2 miles west of the Hwy. 25 interchange had the lane blocked for about 2 hours. Road work in the area also contributed to the backup.

Both northbound Hwy. 100 and 494 saw extra traffic as a result of the northbound Hwy. 169 closure between 494 and Bren Road. That added extra time to the commute. Eastbound 212 also was sluggish during the 7 a.m. hour.

At present, a fender bender on the left shoulder of westbound 94 at Park Avenue is the only mishap on the board.

Metro Transit said the fourth inbound Northstar run was delayed leaving Big Lake by 10 minutes.

Some road work has two ramps closed at present, eastbound 694 at Rice Street and northbound 35W at Industrial Blvd.

That's it for Wednesday. I'll be back Thursday with your morning drive reports.
