Three people have been indicted on first-degree premeditated-murder charges in a case Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said Friday is another example of extreme violence connected with heroin trafficking.

A grand jury indicted Maureen Onyelobi, David Johnson and Maurice Wilson in the shooting death of 23-year-old Anthony Fairbanks. According to the criminal complaint, police responded to a shooting call at 10 p.m. March 8 in the 2700 block of Longfellow Avenue S. in Minneapolis. They found a dead man on the street with a gunshot wound to his head.

The victim's family told police that Fairbanks had spoken on a cellphone with a heroin dealer just before leaving his mother's home.

Officers learned Fairbanks had recently been indicted in a federal-gun case, along with Onyelobi's boyfriend. Jail calls from March 8 between Onyelobi and her boyfriend indicated that he was concerned about a man who might talk to police.

Police found the gun used in the shooting. Onyelobi's van was seen leaving the crime scene, police said.

Information about the role of Wilson and Johnson in the shooting isn't public at this time, according to the Hennepin County attorney's office. All three defendants are in custody.
