Two emergency medical technicians have been given a Scott County award for an extraordinary call last summer.

The patient was a man who'd trained them to do this very work.

Ted Weber and Karen Niesche, who work for Ridgeview Ambulance Service, responded to a call in July.

There was a medical emergency at the home of Tim O'Laughlin, in Belle Plaine. When they arrived, he was in full cardiac arrest and CPR was being performed.

The two of them took up this task until paramedics arrived from Norwood Young America.

Although it didn't prove possible to save him, last week's Morris A. Miller Outstanding Service Award recognizes their professionalism under emotional circumstances and their support for the family later on.
