Vikings running backs coach Eric Bieniemy appears to be the biggest name emerging as a candidate for the Colorado coaching job, according to the Denver Post.

The Post reported this morning that former Colorado players are putting pressure on athletic director Mike Bohn to hire the former star tailback from the school. Bieniemy impressed Colorado officials when they interviewed him last Saturday in the Washington, D.C., area and the Post said in its report the committee was impressed with the potential staff Bieniemy said he could put together.

That could include a few current Vikings assistants given the uncertainty surrounding their job status with Brad Childress having been fired and Leslie Frazier only being coach on an interim basis.

Colorado's search committee met Tuesday night and Colorado could name a new coach this week.

The Post also reported that Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun will not be a candidate for the job and that Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain remains in the picture. The school also has expressed interest in Houston coach Kevin Sumlin.

An organization of former Colorado players named Buffs for Life met with Bohn last Wednesday and heavily pushed Bieniemy.
Southern Cal coach Lane Kiffin approached Bieniemy last summer about becoming the school's offensive coordinator but Childress stopped that from happening by giving Bieniemy an assistant head coach title. Bieniemy, who has been on the Vikings staff since 2006, does not have coordinator experience, which could be a strike against him in his attempt to get the job.
