More than 700 hardy souls took the plunge Wednesday in the annual ALARC (Active Life and Running Club) Ice Dive on Lake Minnetonka, including 88-year-old Burt Carlson, Katherine Johnson and event founder Bill Wenmark.

Other jumpers displayed a wide variety of swimwear choices as they dove into the 31-degree water off the Excelsior shoreline.

Proceeds from the event help to support Ride 2 Recovery, a bicycling-based program designed to help military veterans who need physical and mental rehabilitation.

Temperatures hovered around zero during the festivities.
