Milos Forman's films return time and again to the struggle between spirit and suppression, a theme highlighted in this weekend's tribute to the director by the Film Society of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The series kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday with the screening of Walker Art Center's 2008 Regis Dialogue with the filmmaker, moderated by critic Scott Foundas. At 7 p.m., it's Forman's 1975 Academy Awards magnet, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (★★★★, R) with Jack Nicholson in the pivotal role of his career as looney-bin rebel Randle Patrick McMurphy. It's a knee-breeches double feature Saturday. At 4:30 p.m., it's "Valmont" (★★★, R) with Colin Firth, Annette Bening and Meg Tilly as manipulative nobility playing games of seduction and betrayal in baroque France. Then at 7:30 p.m. it's the audiovisual feast of "Amadeus" (★★★★, PG.) Both films feature sublime classical scores and lustrous cinematography by Miroslav Ondricek.
