CHANHASSEN, Minn. — Severe thunderstorms packing damaging winds have been popping up in parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin.

One line of storms rumbled east from the Morris area in western Minnesota into the Twin Cities metropolitan area and on into western Wisconsin on Sunday evening. A storm gust of 59 mph was measured at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Winds also gusted as high as 58 mph near Appleton in Swift County of western Minnesota, while there were reports of hail as large as 1 inch at Starbuck in nearby Pope County.

Other lines of storms moving from northeastern Minnesota into northwestern Wisconsin knocked out power to about 7,000 Minnesota Power customers in Duluth on Sunday evening.
