An accident in a northeast Minneapolis rail yard killed one person Monday. The victim, whose name was not released, was part of a railroad crew working at the site, said Todd White, a deputy chief for the Minneapolis Fire Department.

The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. near NE. Spring and Harrison streets, alongside the Federated Brake and Equipment Warehouse.

Police and fire crews responded. Though there was no fire or smoke as a result of the accident, heavy equipment had to be moved, White said.

He said the victim was part of an eight-person crew working in the area.

The Hennepin County medical examiner's office removed the body from the scene about 2:15 p.m. Identification is unlikely to be released until family members of the victim can be notified, White said.
