The Edge invested money in the Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" — the most expensive musical ever mounted — and Bono didn't. Both U2 partners, who wrote the music for the show, certainly could afford to put their money where their pride is. U2 tops the list of highest-paid performers in the music business for the past year, thanks largely to the most expensive and biggest-grossing concert tour ever.

According to Forbes magazine, U2 earned $195 million, mostly from its 360 Tour, which has grossed more than $700 million in two years. (The tour is finally coming to Minneapolis on July 23 at TCF Bank Stadium, one of its last shows.) Forbes' figures were calculated from May 2010 to May 2011.

Another road warrior band, Bon Jovi, ranked second with $125 million. Elton John, who splits his time between Las Vegas shows and touring concerts, grossed $100 million. Lady Gaga, who seldom left the road, pulled in $90 million.
