An inmate at Stillwater prison died after being involved in "an incident," a state official said Saturday.
State Department of Corrections spokesman John Schadl was saying little about the death "because an active investigation is underway."
Schadl did say that no one else was hurt and that prison staff were not part of the unspecified incident, which is being investigated by Bayport police.
The man died at Regions Hospital. His identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The minimum-security prison has about 1,600 inmates.
