THE MANY STAGES OF GRAY

It's been a winding path for MarQueis Gray to arrive at his senior season as the Gophers starting quarterback with high expectations. A recap:

HIGH SCHOOL

Ranked the No. 1 overall recruit in Indiana by Rivals.com and the No. 13 QB prospect in the country by ESPN.com coming out of Ben Davis High in Indianapolis.

COLLEGE

2009: Was originally part of the incoming class of 2008, but his career was delayed a year because of eligibility questions surrounding his college entrance exam scores. Played some as a true freshman in 2009, getting game action at QB behind Adam Weber but also playing some wide receiver.

2010: Played almost exclusively at wide receiver, catching 42 passes for 587 yards with five TD grabs.

2011: Moved back to QB with Weber gone and new coach Jerry Kill running the show. Had nearly 2,500 combined yards passing (1,495) and rushing (966) but completed just 50.7 percent of his passes.
