WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Defending champion Andy Murray and No. 1-ranked Novak Djokovic join four other past winners of the U.S. Open in the 2013 men's field.

Five-time champion Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Juan Martin del Potro and Lleyton Hewitt also are among the top 102 men in the rankings who received direct entry into the hard-court Grand Slam tournament Wednesday.

Murray's 2012 title at Flushing Meadows was the first major tennis championship for a British man in 76 years. He followed that up by winning Wimbledon this month, beating Djokovic in the final.

Djokovic has played in the past three U.S. Open finals, losing to Nadal in 2010, then beating him the next year.

The tournament begins Aug. 26, with the men's final scheduled for Monday, Sept. 9.
