STEPHEN HOUGHTuesday: You thrilled to pianist Stephen Hough and the Minnesota Orchestra (pre-lockout) playing Tchaikovsky in spring and fall of 2009, live performances that ended up on a two-CD release on the Hyperion label. Hough returns this week, alone, in his debut with the Schubert Club's International Artist Series. Named one of "20 living polymaths" by the Economist, Hough writes poetry, paints, blogs (www.stephenhough.com), teaches, composes and performs. (What, no novel?) In this gig, he'll play Chopin (Nocturnes), Brahms (Sonata No. 3 in F Minor) and Schumann ("Carnaval"). Plus, Hough plays the U.S. premiere of his own Piano Sonata No. 2, from 2007. (7:30 p.m. Tue. $25-$60. Ordway Center, 5th and Washington Sts., St. Paul. 651-292-3268 or www.schubert.org.)
