Norah Long is next up in the Wesley Balk Solo Performance Series at Nautilus. Long will sing work from Leonard Bernstein, Jason Robert Brown, Paul Dresher and our own local George Maurer. In addition, she'll do excerpts from Jake Heggie's 2000 opera "Dead Man Walking."

The concerts are at 7:30 p.m. the next two Mondays, the 16th and the 23rd.

Long frequently performs with Nautilus, in addition to stints at Chanhassen, the Guthrie, History Theatre.

Soprano Vanessa Gamble, who has a lovely voice that we don't get to hear enough of, will also be on the program. Nautilus's Mindy Eschedor is at the piano.

The Balk Series, named for the legendary opera conductor/director/teacher, has two more installments this summer: J.P. Fitzgibbons on June 13 and 20; and Christina Baldwin on July 18 and 25.

Long and Gamble are at Zeitgeist's Studio Z in St. Paul's Lowertown Arts District, at 275 E. 4th St. Light rail construction has that part of town bollixed up, but Nautilus promises there is parking at the Farmers Market or on the streets.
