A New Ulm doctor is accused of stealing prescription pain medication from a resident of an assisted-living facility.

A criminal complaint filed in Brown County charges Dr. David Christopher Miller with theft and possession of a controlled substance. The complaint says the 59-year-old doctor prescribed Oxycontin and Percocet for a "vulnerable adult" resident of the New Ulm facility and regularly visited to help the resident dispense the pills into a dosage container.

Staff noticed the resident's medication had been replaced with acetaminophen and contacted police, who set up camera surveillance.

Police confronted Miller and said they found 56 Oxycontin tablets in his possession and that he admitted he had consumed three.

Police say that, because the doctor is affiliated with the Brown County Detox Center, he was taken to a similar facility outside the county.
