Ryan Doumit's return to the Twins' roster has been delayed by a day, mostly because of a logistical issue. The Twins wanted him to catch a bullpen session or two, just to make sure the "in a fog" symptoms have cleared, that he no longer shows any signs of a concussion.

But yesterday's game started at noon, so no pitchers threw in the pen before the game. Doumit was out there before batting practice today, and reported no recurrence of the symptoms, which got so bad during the Twins' game in Kansas City last Wednesday, he was put on the concussion disabled list a week ago today.

He'll be activated tomorrow, Doumit said. "I felt great. I'm ready to go," he said after a week of forced vacation from baseball.

The Twins will probably make a roster move after tonight's game, and the logical candidates to spend the next couple of weeks in Rochester are Wilkin Ramirez, Chris Herrmann and Chris Colabello. (I thought sending out a relief pitcher was a possibility, too, but that was before the Twins used seven relievers during yesterday's game; with no days off for the next two weeks, that's just not likely.)

Herrmann's versatility -- he can play outfield as well as catch, and even has taken some ground balls in the infield -- make him less likely, and manager Ron Gardenhire repeated before today's game that he's determined to get at-bats for Colabello, who's in right field tonight. Ramirez is the only experienced backup behind center fielder Clete Thomas, but my guess (and it's only that) is that the Twins will send him to Rochester, with the understanding that he'll be back once the Red Wings' season ends in September.

Of course, they could also make room by trading someone.

Baseball's intention to use a replay system next year was the talk of the clubhouse, and we'll have plenty on that tonight and in tomorrow's editions. Ron Gardenhire's take, boiled down: Fine, but why make the system so complex? Just have a replay umpire watch the game and correct the mistakes.
