The Fort-Myers News-Press is reporting that Doug Mientkiewicz has been named manager of the Twins' Class A Fort Myers team.

Mientkiewicz, 38, had been a hitting coach in the Dodgers organization.

The News-Press quoted Fort Myers general manager Andrew Seymour as saying: "We are looking forward to having Doug's leadership, hustle and passion with the Miracle for 2013. He brought so much energy to Hammond Stadium when he played here."

As for Mientkiewicz, who played for six other teams after leaving Minnesota, he said: "I've always considered myself a Twin."

You might remember that in 2004, Mientkiewicz went from the Twins to the Red Six in a four-way trade that took place while the Red Sox were playing a series at the Metrodome. Nomar Garciaparra went from Boston to the Cubs as part of that deal, and two of the other players sent to different teams in the trade -- Orlando Cabrera and Brendan Harris -- eventually ended up with the Twins in other deals.

He was traded when the Twins decided that Justin Morneau was ready to take over at first base.
